Tasting notes

A full, expansive nose of citrus and pineapple leads into a soft, richly textured palate with real weight and concentration. Despite being a young vintage, the wine already shows a touch of developed, mellow character alongside its bright citrus fruit. The finish is long and lingers pleasantly, closing out a wine that captures the purity, aromatic lift, and generous finish Hamada Vineyard aims for in its Chardonnay.

Food pairing

A versatile white suited to dishes that let good ingredients speak for themselves: simply prepared seafood and shellfish, roast or grilled chicken, and dishes with a touch of cream or butter. Soft, mild cheeses such as Brie or Camembert are also a natural match.

Winemaking

Hamada Vineyard’s Chardonnay is grown on the family’s small hillside vineyard in Tappu, Mikasa City, in Hokkaido’s Sorachi subprefecture. The grapes are whole-bunch pressed to preserve their character, then fermented and aged for about eight months, primarily in used (neutral) oak barrels, which allow the fruit and site to show through rather than overlaying heavy new-oak character. As with the rest of the estate’s wines, the fruit is meticulously hand-selected at harvest, and the Chardonnay is made at the family’s own winery.
